I visited Untapped Games in Providence on 5/31 – another spot to investigate on my tour of Rhode Island gaming locales.
Impressions
Located out in east Providence , Untapped games is on the 2nd floor of an old mill building. Parking was very tough- looks like there are many other stores in the same building, it was a sunday, and there appeared to be an event going on. After I circled the parking lot a few times, I was finally able to park.
The store is up two flights of narrow stairs, not particularly accessible, but fine with me. Untapped Games is very open, bright, airy- a single room surrounded by shelves and a very long checkout counter/display space. On the day of my visit it was very loud- roughly 2/3 of the room was filled with card gamers joyfully playing. Overall impression is that the space is geared more toward card gamers rather than TTRPG’ers. They seemed to have quite a stock of Warhammer minis, card games, some board games, and a smattering of RP games.
Looks like the card gaming folks were having a blast and I feel that the space is really suited for those games/gamers. Does not look/feel like a spot for TTRPG’ers- far too loud for my taste.
My search for a solid TTRPG spot continues…
