Just recently I’ve decided to start looking for like-minded folks and locations for in-person role-playing games, such as D&D (5e & AD&D), Dolmenwood, Dungeon Crawl Classics and Traveller. Started this weekend by doing some research and then visiting some venues.
Yesterday, I visited the following and here is what I found.
- Rescue Gaming Collectibles – Not a role-playing gaming store. I pulled up, looked in the windows and no RPGs to be found. Small space, seems to be set up for collectible card-gaming only. No luck here.
- The Game House – Appears to be just what it says it is- looks like a bar and has a large stock of board games to play while you drink/eat. Was closed when I came by, so I could not enter/investigate further. Looks like they are working on setting up and opening. No luck here.
- The Crypt – Ok, THIS is the place! Fair amount of gaming gear for sale, lots of Warhammer, variety of titles, tons of dice. Loved the vibe! I walked in late on a sunday afternoon, spoke with the owner Ryan (great guy, very upbeat). Large table gaming area with reasonable prices. Looked like maybe a dozen or so tables in the main area and then maybe 6 or so in a back area that seems suited for Warhammer/Wargaming activities. Loved that they had a classic 1970’s-era Godzilla flick playing in the background. Parking seemed a bit odd, but most likely it was just me as it was my first visit. Check out the photos!
- Reality A Games – Large space, bit rough around the edges, lots of card-game gear. Smaller amount, but still present RPG accessories. Maybe 8 or so tables out front and then a room in the back where they display/sell vintage electronic/console games and it appears to have a large table with a display perhaps for gaming. Met the manager (name escapes me at the moment) and the person running the register (Neil?). Friendly, helpful. Seems like a great spot!

I have many more venues to check out in the coming weeks. Will be posting thoughts as I check them out. My plan is to hit all of the Rhode Island locales, then visit eastern CT and south-central Mass.
